Biography

Jeffrey B. Setness is a shareholder with Fabian VanCott whose practice focuses in the following areas:

• White-Collar Criminal Defense and Investigations, including criminal tax, money laundering, structuring of currency transactions, and asset forfeiture, and state criminal offenses involving casino debts.

• Conduct corporate internal investigations and implement compliance programs.

• Anti-Money Laundering (AML)/ Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) Compliance including representation of casinos before governmental authorities, and implementation and review of Anti-Money Laundering Programs. Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist and frequent speaker regarding AML/BSA compliance by casinos.

• Representation before the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) including Examinations, Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) Title 31 Examinations of Casinos, Appeals, Tax Return Preparer Investigations, and Offshore Voluntary Disclosure Program (OVDP).

• Federal and state civil litigation, including civil tax litigation in U.S. District Court and U.S. Tax Court.

Prior to entering private practice, Jeff was a Trial Attorney with the Tax Division of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ Tax) in Washington, D.C. and later served as an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) with the U.S. Attorney's Office in Las Vegas and Reno. As a federal prosecutor, Jeff investigated and prosecuted a wide variety of federal criminal offenses including criminal violations of the Internal Revenue Code.
