Rick Evans, an attorney with Fabian VanCott, graduated magna cum laude from the University of Utah in 1974 (B.A., History Honors Program). He received his J.D. Degree from the University of Utah College of Law in 1977. Rick was a lawyer in the Tax Planning and Analysis Section of the Tax Department of Gulf Oil Corporation in Houston, Texas from 1977 through 1980. He has maintained a private practice in Salt Lake City from 1980 to the present. Rick is a member of the Utah, Texas and American Bar Associations and of their respective tax sections. He is also admitted to practice in the U.S. Tax Court. His practice concentrates on domestic and international taxation, business planning, wills, trusts, estate planning, nonprofit and charitable organizations, real estate and development, mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, distribution and licensing agreements, trade secrets, trademarks, financial contracts and corporate law.
Rick has represented a diverse group of clients, both public and private, including multinational corporations, closely held corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies, charitable organizations, individuals and government entities. He has experience handling a wide variety of legal matters, including complex domestic and international tax planning and transactions, mergers and acquisitions, reorganizations, real estate acquisition and development transactions, manufacturing, licensing, high technology, hotel and resort management, estate planning, federal and state taxation, and employee benefits and retirement planning.
What Rick loves most about his profession is the opportunity it gives him to create long-term relationships with so many wonderful business planning and estate planning clients. He finds it very satisfying to help his clients put their affairs in order and to avoid significant conflicts. He has always thought it was his role to help clients understand their options, along with the implications of those options, and to let them make their own business judgments about how to proceed, based on what they consider to be their own best interests.
Although he doesn’t claim to be an expert, Rick enjoys hiking, golf, tennis, travel, music, singing in choirs, history, and genealogy.
