Fabian VanCott invites talented law students to join our team each year as Summer Associates. Our summer program exposes students to life at our firm, while giving them the opportunity to hone their skills, gain real world legal experience, and network with attorneys.
Our firm uses its Summer Associate program to find the next generation of Fabian VanCott attorneys. Many of our partners came through our Summer Associate program and have been with us ever since.
We do not use a pyramid model for hiring a class of Summer Associates. Instead, every Summer Associate we hire is selected with the hope and expectation that we will be working together decades into the future, and we’re proud that we’ve developed so many of our partners from the very beginning through our summer program.
Our Summer Associates acquire true legal experience by working on real matters, side by side with attorneys. We expose them to as many practice areas and legal topics as we can, and encourage our attorneys to bring them along to witness hearings, depositions, oral arguments, trials, and transaction closings.
Fabian VanCott also plans various activities and events for its Summer Associates. Each summer, we take our Summer Associates on a weekend retreat, typically featuring adventurous activities at scenic destinations. These retreats provide our Summer Associates with the opportunity to build lasting connections with Fabian VanCott attorneys and their families, outside of the office.
We expect our Summer Associates have an outstanding academic record, with excellent writing and analytical skills and a transcript that reflects that.
We also look for Summer Associates with a great sense of humor, professionalism, and strong work ethic. We hope to develop our Summer Associates into skilled legal practitioners and to be working together long-term, so a great attitude and love of the law are crucial.
The ideal Summer Associate candidate is smart, driven, and ready to learn. They should also be passionate about building their legal career, with the ambition of becoming a partner in private practice, and a commitment to their community.
Our firm typically conducts on-campus interviews locally each year at the University of Utah and Brigham Young University, and we accept applications and hire law students at top law schools from all over the country.
